PTA Message

Hello Highlands Families!

Welcome to our school as we prepare for another great year of learning and growth! Having been part of the Highlands “Community” over the past several years, it has been great to meet so many new families and see all of the kids engaged in various activities with our faculty/staff and parents on campus. My name is David Swider and as this year’s PTA (Parent-Teacher Association) president, I would like to invite you to participate in your Highland’s PTA. We have an awesome team in place this year!

Highland’s PTA is a non-profit organization run totally on the support of parent volunteers. The PTA works with the principal, teachers, and families to run and/or fund student programs such as art, technology, field trips, physical education, music, red ribbon week, science nights, assemblies, etc.

Monthly PTA meetings are generally held on the first Thursday of every month and depending on participation, childcare may also be available. The agenda usually includes the principal’s report, teacher’s reports, special speaker’s, current PTA business and the opportunity for the new business to be addressed. The meetings are both open and informative.

How can you support the Highland’s PTA?

Simply put, showing your personal support on one of the committees that might interest you. Taking on a single task or two, as determined with the event committee lead, is all it takes. That’s it! Not a huge time commitment and this is a great way to meet other Highland’s parents. The concept of a community’s “many hands making light work” is why the PTA exists in the first place.  Be careful you might actually like it!  Please look for more information on upcoming activities and events.

How can your Highlands PTA support our families?

Knowing the pace of daily life, you simply may not be able to attend PTA meetings, or be able to spare a few hours during the year. Our focus is to ensure that the items that are brought before the PTA are communicated with our families.

I am amazed at the amount of information passed between “drop-off” and “pick-up”. To ensure you have the most accurate, up to the moment information, please feel free to stop me, or other PTA board members to address your needs. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns you may also submit your feedback to  for a prompt response. Please also look for postings on campus, the digital sign in front of the school, and refer to the Highlands website for additional Highland’s news and event calendars.

Finally, Highland’s has a rich history, with many generations of families attending Highland’s Elementary School over the years. Our focus for the PTA is to continue to help provide as many enriching activities as is possible. The PTA wants what is best for the kids and our future and want to thank you. Your participation and support will only make our results better.
