Mrs. McGee

Hello! My name is Emily McGee and this is my 16th year teaching at Highlands Elementary! I have taught grades K-4, and I can honestly say that first grade is my very favorite. I'm a mom to an eleven year old daughter, Campbell, and my eight year old son, Teddy. My favorite things to are teach, read, run, and yoga. My favorite place in the world is the beach! I can't wait for another great year! Go hawks!!

Nightly Stories

Hello happy readers! I will get the schedule of stories up here ASAP. Please make sure you are having your child read the story of the day at least 3 TIMES out loud to you. Please make sure the book goes back into your child's plastic bag and is returned to school the next day. We do not have extras at the moment, so it is so important to return the books daily.

Using the description from the story, students drew the magical Mr. Willy Wonka. They carefully diagrammed the details.

The Emerald City
The Emerald City

They have never worked so hard!!! These first graders wrote another, lengthy paragraph on the importance of the Emerald City as the setting in the book The Wizard of Oz. I am so incredibly proud of hard they worked. They couldn't believe they wrote something that needed "TWO WHOLE PAGES"!

The Magic of the moon!

It was a lab full of moon discoveries!! Students created craters, watched what happens as the moon circles earth, put the phases of the moon in order, and made their favorite phase out of an oreo cookie!!!
