Waffles!

By now, I am sure you all have met Waffles, our class guinea pig!  We have had a lot of fun so far watching him eat, sleep, and run around his cage.  Attached is an infographic showing the things he can eat!  If you have any extra veggies, Waffles can take care of that for you!

Ways to Help

Here are some great suggestions to help your child with reading, spelling, and math!

Non Perishable Food Items

At the beginning of the year, many of you expressed interest in donating a non-perishable food items.  Here are things that we collect (this list will be updated as needed): **ALL MUST BE NUT FREE**

Flour

Salt

Vegetable oil

Food coloring

Popcorn

Graham crackers

Granola bars

Marshmallows (any size)

Pretzels (sticks and/or twists)

Dried beans and/or rice

Happy Camper

Each student will get a turn to be the Happy Camper for the week.  A poster board and some paper instructions will go home the week before it is your child's turn.

Monday - Photo board and questionnaire to be shared with the class.

Tuesday - Bring an art project to show the class

Wednesday  - Bring your favorite book to read.

Thursday - Bring 30 of something for us all to count.

Friday - Bring a special item from home to share.  Keep it in a paper bag with clues outside for us to guess what is inside!

Let me know if there are any questions!

Spike!

Spike is a bear that was named by our class!  He will go home with a different student everyday (Monday - Thursday). Please do your best to keep Spike away from dogs looking for new toys :).  He will come home with a bag with books to read and a journal.  Please help your child write and/or draw about something they did with Spike and return it all to school the next day.  Make sure your child's name is on their page in the journal!

A Little About the Teacher

Hello families!  I hope you're as excited as I am to spend this year together!

I graduated from CSU Monterey Bay in 2015 and got my teaching credential there in December of the same year.  By January, I was teaching 2nd grade at Highlands!  The last two years I was able to teach kindergarten and I absolutely loved it!  I'm so glad that I get to take what I have learned so far and do it again this year.

Before I started teaching, I worked with kids for about nine years.  I taught preschool, assistant directed before and after school programs, and even started my own after school program/summer camp with a friend in Santa Cruz where we brought students hiking, climbing, and adventuring all over town (ramblinadventureclub.com - they are still operating and doing incredible things!)

In my spare time I love hiking with my dog and husband, playing golf badly (well, maybe just driving the cart around), doing cross stitch, and reading.

I can't wait to get to know you all more!
